The trouble with running an experiment like this website, is you get in over your head such that, when something breaks, you don't know how to fix it! When the sessions table crashed and I couldn't repair, it took me a couple days to figure it out--in between long stints of having to do "real work".The journey continues...
Welcome to CraterAlumni.com...an experiment in online alumni community building
Submitted by erik on Wed, 2006-04-05 09:41.I've always wanted to start a blog, so I thought I would use our new CraterAlumni.com site as a good excuse to do so.
When working with a few of our classmates to ramp up the Crater High School - Class of 1986 - 20 year reunion, I thought it would be great if we could create something that would last beyond the span of this reunion, make it easier for us to stay in touch with classmates and to provide a platform for other year's to host their own reunions. So, after following the developments of CivicSpace--the Open Source content management system (CMS) based on Drupal that came into existence when it was created to power the Howard Dean and John Kerry campaigns, I convinced our Class of 1986 reunion planning committee to experiment by putting our Class reunion online by using this system. Additionally, we decided to establish the site as CraterAlumni.com instead of just Crater86.com, thinking that this could become a grassroots model not just for our class, but for connecting all Crater Alumni.
